How to Take a Selfie

Web Watch learned this week that not everybody knows what the term SELFIE means.

As with many other Internet-related terms that kids use these days, SELFIE is just a shortened version of the real phrase, SELF-PORTRAIT.

That’s cray-cray, right?  (because saying “cray cray” is so much easier and faster than saying “crazy”. Silly kids.)

So we’ve all seen those CELEBRITY SELFIE shots, usually leaked out on Twitter or TMZ. Some are good, some are reputation-ruining, and others are just so awful that you have to wonder what was going through the celeb’s mind – not when they took the picture, but when they thought it was good enough to release for the world to see.

Top 100 Most Popular Drinking Games, and 5 Drinking Game Types

Back in the day (and it’s always “back in the day” with these types of stories, isn’t it?), Web Watch would be known to partake in a drinking game or two amongst friends.

Why?  Mainly because the games themselves were kinda fun.  A bit stupid, perhaps, but always a fun challenge.  Drinking was merely secondary to the activity, as one never needs a “game” of any sort to take a drink whenever one would like.

The key, of course, is to know when to say when and back out of the activity.  Drinking too much because of some stupid game rule is never a good idea for anyone.

Who does all the work?

Hopefully, you’ve been on the Internet long enough for someone (likely, a parent) to have forwarded to you the following old meme about how tired you are from being overworked:

Yes, I’m tired.

For several years I’ve been blaming it on getting older, lack of sleep, weekend projects, stale office air, poor nutrition, carrying a couple of extra pounds, raising a family, recent ailments, and a dozen other reasons that make you wonder why life is getting tough.

But now I found out what’s really happening! I’m tired because I’m overworked.

The population of the USA reached 300 million last October.

79 million of the population are retired. That leaves 221 million to do the work.

There are 19 million toddlers and 76 million students in schools, which leaves 126 million to do the work.

Of that total, 21 million are unemployed leaving 105 million to do the work.

Then you take away 34 million in hospitals and that leaves 71 million to do the work.

43 million are in prisons and that’s 28 million left to do the work.

Now take away 14,683,468 federal, 5,344,722 state and 5,370,743 city workers who run our government and you’re left with 2,601,067 to do the work.

Take away the 2,601,065 people in the armed forces and that leaves just two people to do the work, you and me.

And you’re just sitting there reading this!

No wonder I’m tired!!!

The 5 Worst Songs to Hear on Repeat

A few years ago when the TV show SURVIVOR was unique and different and much more awesome than it is today (not because today’s version is less challenging, but because Survivor has become more mainstream when compared to other programming — and because Web Watch has an awesome idea for Jeff Probst and crew that we’d love to see implemented on a future season of Survivor… if only Probst would return our calls)… where were we?

Ah – yes, a few years ago when the TV show SURVIVOR was unique and different, Web Watch helped with a promotion entitled URBAN SURVIVOR.  The premise was exactly the same, with contestants living in unfamiliar circumstances and having to compete in challenges to survive until the end.

The Magician’s Code of Ethics

The number one rule in magic is “never give away your secrets, never tell them how it’s done.”

While Penn & Teller may disagree with the premise (seeing how they’ve built their entire career off of revealing their own and other magicians’ secrets in their act), the concept is still valid.  Half the fun of seeing a high-quality magic act is the suspension of disbelief that the audience can have for those two hours.

Standing on a pole in the middle of a park isn’t “magic” in the traditional sense. There is no hidden trick, no amount of misdirection can alleviate the amount of effort it can take to stand still for hours on end… with or without a supportive device to lean on at times.  Not saying that David Blaine used something like that — but Web Watch would if we were forced into doing that type of stunt ourselves.

6 Government Agencies to Avoid Working For

Some say that the ideal job is one with the government. Not a lot of oversight, great (or at least reasonable) benefits, retirement is taken care of, relatively stress-free, etc.

In other words, once you have a job with the government, you’re pretty much set.

But there can be a downside to working for the Fed.

Guess who was voted as having the worst hairstyle of the 21st century?

Some people are known for having a really nice head of hair.

It’s one of the first things you comment on when you see a co-worker with a new ‘do: “hey, did you get a haircut?” we ask, as if getting a hair cut is something that people don’t tend to do every 6-8 weeks or so (depending on the person, of course).

Why are we so fascinated with hair, either having it or being jealous of someone who has more (or less) than we do?

What does the average wedding cost?

They say that there are three things that one should expect to consider as The Most Important Expenses in your lifetime:  a new car, a new home, and your first wedding.

(Kids, naturally, are also an expense over time — but that’s an expense that returns love and so much more, so Web Watch will leave that one out of this discussion.)
