How to get expert help with your homework

Homework can be rewarding, if you know how to do the assignment.  It can also be extremely frustrating if you have difficulty in the subject matter.

And let’s face it – while Mom and Dad are familiar with practically everything, there’s no way that kids can always rely on their parents to help them with some calculus problem if Mom and Dad haven’t used that skill in say, forever.

So while some parents turn to professional tutors to help, that isn’t always a viable option for one-off situations.

So what should parents do when faced with a tough homework assignment question from their kids?

The Awkward Years Project

Believe it or not, everybody growing up had at least one awkward moment that lives on in ancient photos stored in albums or shoeboxes hidden under a pile of clothes in the back of a closet.

If you think that everyone in school was absolutely perfect at everything – sports, tests, popularity – then your memory of high school is much fuzzier than everyone else’s has been.  THE BREAKFAST CLUB did sum it up perfectly in that everyone in school was, at one time or another “a brain, an athlete, a basketcase, a princess”… and maybe a little bit of a criminal.

The number one reason why teenagers should never date

We were all teenagers once.

And come Springtime, they say, is when a young heart turns to finding love.   Well, maybe not “love” per se, but how about “strong like”?

Being a teenager is a tough time with lots of challenges due to the lack of experience that being in ones’ twenties gives you the proper perspective on.  Adults may not always have all the answers, but they’ve lived through the same struggles that teenagers are going through today – if only the teens in their lives would think to ask for that advice.

Best way to avoid cyberbullies? Stop using Facebook

In today’s cruel Internet world, if you participate in social media at all then you’ve likely participated (in one way or another) in cyberbullying.

And Web Watch isn’t even talking about the overly mean, news-worthy levels of pure, unadulterated hatred that should never happen to anybody, at anytime, anywhere, ever.  Just posting angry messages about anonymous people with bad driving habits, or Instagramming photos of unusual hair styles or clothing choices — those also could be counted under the generic CYBERBULLY tag.

Web Watch was in a grocery store recently, when we saw a customer walking through the aisles with her hair stacked up on her head and a baseball cap perched precariously atop the towering threads. It was not a good look on her, nor would it be a good look on anybody.  Why a baseball cap instead of a hair wrap? We may never know the answer.  But she was confident in what she was wearing, and Web Watch applauds her for this.

It’s the latest trend in preschool: the group potty party!

Web Watch was chatting with one of our friends the other day about troubles he was having with his 2-year-old in daycare.

And it wasn’t so much that the 2-year-old was causing trouble or that the daycare the child was in wasn’t doing their job — it was more an issue with one specific activity that this particular daycare thought was an important part of a young child’s education.

The best time to exercise is between 5pm – 7pm

Are you like most people?

You get out of bed, slip on your running outfit (with nighttime reflectors, of course), and head out for an early-morning 5 mile run to shake out the cobwebs before you head home to shower and get ready for work?

If so, then you’re doing it wrong.

It’s true: Popular Kids Will Earn More Money After Graduation

Remember the old adage “nice guys finish last”?

It ends up that it’s not always true.  Especially when you replace the word “nice” with “popular”.  Because weren’t the most popular kids in school the nicest ones?  (Don’t answer that… just go with the concept here).

Math is hard; let’s go shopping!

There’s a running joke at Web Watch about one’s ability – or inability – to handle math that’s more advanced than the basic multiplication table.

We’ve counted on our fingers in public more often than we care to note, and we are often despised at the blackjack tables — not because we don’t know the rules of the game or make the incorrect strategy decisions, but rather because we slow the game down tremendously while we determine whether we should hit or stay on a 6 of clubs and an 8 of hearts vs a dealer’s up-card of 4.

Yeah, 6+8 shouldn’t be a difficult piece of math to remember, but sometimes things aren’t as easy as they look.
