What’s a BOC? If it’s from WOOT, it’s either a Bucket of Chum or Basket of Candles!

Well, another one has finally arrived.

The WOOT.COM BOC (affectionately known as a “Bag of Crap”, or any other acronym that contains the letters “B.O.C.”) is here.

As Web Watch previously told you about when we ordered our WOOT BANDOLIER OF CARROTS, WOOT.COM occasionally offers grab bags of assorted merchandise for $3 (plus $5 shipping and handling).  When you place your order, you have no idea what you’re going to get.

Just like the TV show LET’S MAKE A DEAL, sometimes you’ll end up with the most awesome prize ever, or you might get zonked.

Let’s take a look at what Web Watch hauled in this time around for our $8 investment:

Only 15% of Americans avoid food poisoning by doing just one thing

Having food poisoning is not pretty, either for you or those around you.

Web Watch knows – the one time it hit us, we were trying to enjoy a group outing while on a trip away from home.  You’d be surprised how quickly getting that ill, that quickly will identify who your real traveling companions are (hint: that number is close to zero during that time period — when it comes to food poisoning, you’re going to be mainly on your own).

So what can you do to avoid getting food poisoning?

Unfortunately, the majority of food poisoning occurs while you’re away from home, eating at restaurants with poor health scores or who happened to receive tainted food themselves.

In other words, when you’re eating out, there’s not much you can do if someone serves you bad food that really, really disagrees with you.

How to find out how much your domain name is worth

“How much is my domain name worth?”

It’s a common question that Web Watch is often asked, and surprisingly comes up in more casual conversations than you may think one would experience in an average week.

Of course, let’s get the important piece out of the way:  you DO own a domain name or two, don’t you?

If not, you know you can always buy one from any number of domain name registrars that you may find online.

Right.  So now you have that ultimate, desirable domain name.   So what next?  Are domain names really good investments?

Traveling abroad? Don’t forget to pack your doorstop!

If you’re anything like Web Watch, you’ve done a fair amount of traveling over the years.

And with all that traveling, you may have found that you have specific habits or tricks of the trade that you’ve figured out along the way.

For us, it’s that we always have to travel with a fresh crossword puzzle and a pen.  The goal is to finish the crossword puzzle before the end of the flight.

Easy, right?   Sure, we have other oddities in our carry-on luggage:  a pair of dice being one of the more unusual items to have, but it goes along with the deck of cards.

You never know when you’re going to end up needing a deck of cards.

Women would rather have bigger breasts than be smart

“Math is Hard. Let’s go shopping!”

Ah, remember when Barbie actually said that, and the uproar that came from concerned parents that thought that Barbie wasn’t being a proper role model by encouraging young women that being smart wasn’t nearly as important as going out shopping?

Well, maybe the folks at Mattel were ahead of their time with this.

The Ultimate Guide to Metrosexual Underwear

Metrosexuals, listen up!

You may think you know everything about everything grooming-wise, but apparently you do not.

Sure, you may go around looking all nice and pretty, and have a way with the ladies at the bar — but maybe you don’t know all the details of what women REALLY look for when you take your pants off.

Yes, men – women do care about your underwear.  They may not like to admit it, but just like the old saying, “clothes make the man,” so goes the other saying, “cartoon animal underpants are a big turn off”.

The Roommate from Hell

Web Watch agrees that this type of thing can happen to anyone.

Everybody has some odd roommate story that they can share.  We went through 6 months of one roommate never doing their own laundry.

What?

Yeah, it’s true.  Many years back, we shared an apartment with two guys… and one of them, apparently, didn’t have any socks of his own.  He would “borrow” socks from Web Watch (we shudder to think if he was “borrowing” underpants from our other roommate), and then toss the dirtys into the appropriate hamper for the unsuspecting soul to wash on laundry day.

For a while, Web Watch could never understand why we were always running out of clean socks ahead of where we thought we would be in the laundry cycle.   Sure, we figured it out – but by then, it was too late.  A use pattern had set in.

Luckily, we were able to kick him out – and laundry returned to normal levels.

How does the average American spend their paycheck?

Web Watch remembers the old adage when we were just starting out to be able to sustain ourselves on our own.

“When you make your budget, you should always devote 1/3 to housing, 1/3 to transportation, and 1/3 for everything else.”

Now, we may not have been able to follow that breakdown exactly, but it’s not necessarily that far from the truth of how AMERICANS ACTUALLY SPEND THEIR PAYCHECK.  Especially if you take into account the need for saving some money for retirement or a rainy day, that ratio may be better split into quarters:

“devote 1/4 to housing, 1/4 to transportation, 1/4 put away in the bank/IRA/investments, 1/4 for everything else”

That seems to be closer to the truth.  Let’s take a look at how the average 48-year-old spends their average $63,091 annual salary (before taxes):

Just like your underwear, sales are creeping up

Web Watch has previously covered news regarding how one can tell that the economy is picking up based on the increase in underwear sales.

But isn’t it time to take a look at exactly what type of worldwide retail trends we should be looking at when it comes to our underwear purchases?

How to Dress Like a Unicorn

“How can you dress like a unicorn?”

Surprisingly, it’s not a question that Web Watch gets asked often, but the fact that we’ve been asked how to impersonate a unicorn at least once is reason enough to write about this phenomenal product that we have found over at Amazon:

Magical Unicorn Mask (Creepy)
Magical Unicorn Mask

That’s right.   If you want to look like a unicorn, you have to get yourself a Magical Unicorn Mask, in adult size.

Seriously, how could you NOT buy a unicorn mask, now that you know it’s available?

Are you an ethical diner? Here’s how to select the best-run restaurant for your next meal

We all enjoy eating out at restaurants.

The food is typically well-prepared, and who doesn’t enjoy being waited on by a young go-getter who is eager to please and provide the Ultimate Dining Experience?

Ok, well maybe not every restaurant you eat at ends up being the Ultimate Dining Experience, but go with us on the concept here.

Let’s look at this from another viewpoint – if you were going to work at a restaurant, would you rather work at a restaurant that provided the Ultimate Employee Experience, or one that treated all of their employees without care?

And there’s nothing wrong with encouraging kids to read a little bit more once in a while.
