Bad Computer Habits can Lead to Problems

Any problem can be screwed up more by computer
Any problem can be screwed up more by computer

A few years ago, one of Web Watch’s computer hard drives crashed.

We’re not just talking about a minor “ooh, we lost a boot sector” thing, where we could boot to a different drive and copy the files off.

No, we’re talking an extreme catastrophic event where we lost the entire drive. It was physically unable to spin up, making data recovery rather impossible on our own.  Luckily, we made a few phone calls and found a data recovery company that was able to rebuild the drive’s data and copy it to a new disc.

Science proves many pick-up truck drivers are idiots

1956 GMC Pickup
1956 GMC Pickup

Web Watch was driving down the highway the other day when we were almost part of an accident waiting to happen.

The doofus in the pick-up truck in front of us ended up slamming on his brakes for some reason, which led to all of us behind him having to quickly do the same.  While we had plenty of braking room in front of us under normal circumstances, he had his pickup truck tailgate down, taking away an extra foot of available brake space from our squealing tires.

Luckily, this was during the day and we could see that the tailgate was down, but if this same situation happened at night, that truck would be minus one tailgate and we would be minus one engine.

Mariano Martinez.

When you hear his name, you should raise your salt-rimmed glass high in the air and sing his name proudly.

Why?  Because without his ingenuity, we would not be sipping this frozen concoction that helps us hang on.

September 17th is “Seventeen Two-Second Turnoff Day”

Turn off Cell Phone
Turn Off Your Cell Phone

Driving while texting is being banned in more and more states, and rightfully so.  It’s hard enough for Web Watch to walk down the street with every passer-by so engrossed in their Blackberries or iPhones that they’re not paying attention where they’re going – we know how bad it could be with those same people behind the wheel of a car.

Driving has enough distractions as it is, especially for teenagers or other inexperienced drivers.  That’s why SEVENTEEN MAGAZINE and AAA have TEAMED UP for the SEVENTEEN TWO-SECOND TURN OFF DAY on September 17th.

All they want you and your teenagers to do is to take two seconds before you start your car, and turn off your cell phone.  That’s it.  One less distraction for you as you weave in-and-out of traffic on your way to work, school, or fun.

Don’t think it’s necessary?  Let’s take a look at some statistics about how badly distracted teenage drivers are, taken from a poll of over 2000 male and female drivers, age 16-19:
