Science proves why people are afraid of clowns

Evil Clown

Yes, many people are afraid of clowns.  They call it “COULROPHOBIA”

Even mentioning the word “clown” can bring some people to tears, as if they’re being tortured by a clown.

An aside — if you have the chance to see Bruce Nauman’s art piece CLOWN TORTURE, do it.  After a while, you’ll be asking yourself, “are the clowns being tortured, or are we being tortured by these clowns?” – just like these three clowns said when they were asked to view the art piece themselves.

Or, like TOO MUCH JOY said in their hit, CLOWNS:  “I hate clowns… and I hate mimes”.

Yeah, clowns can be a little polarizing.

Fun with mugshots: Guess the Crime

Murder by Death
Murder by Death

Let’s face it. Mugshots are fun.

There’s a little schadenfreude with it as well, knowing that the person staring back at you from the mugshot gallery has allegedly done something wrong, and you haven’t.

And if Nick Nolte or other celebrity mugshots have proven anything, it’s just that some people make pretty funny police fodder.

Email for Seniors: a step-by-step guide for the computer shy

How many of you are scared about your parents being on email or following/friending you on social networks?

Yeah.

Thought so.

Does it help if you knew that you were not alone?  That pretty much everyone doesn’t want to have any more interaction with their parents than was already being provided by phone or Sunday evening dinners?

Tacky Tourists Taking Photos of Tacky Things

Tacky Tourist Costume
Tacky Tourists

Some people travel to be educated about an area’s history.

Some travel to try different cuisines, or to learn about different culture.

But after you’ve done all that, you may still have another 20 hours of the day to kill, wandering around a strange or unfamiliar city looking for something to do.

And that’s why you may find yourself, with camera in hand, looking for the underbelly of interesting things in your new locale.  There may not be a HARD ROCK CAFE or PLANET HOLLYWOOD nearby for you to buy a T-shirt from, but there may be something equally awesome.

You know who’s starting to dislike Lady Gaga? Gays.

Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Lady Gaga – Born This Way

Web Watch won’t get into the controversy surrounding whether Lady Gaga’s most recent hit, Born This Way, sounds too much like some old Madonna song.

Hey, both have good beats and you can dance to ’em.  To the casual listener, that’s what’s called win-win.

But not everyone is in love with Lady Gaga, no matter what she does or says.

Famous people who should have just shut up (Charlie Sheen? Not on this list.)

I Wish I Hadn't Said That: The Experts Speak - and Get it Wrong!

The Experts Speak – and Get it Wrong!

Sometimes, history will tell us, that our visionaries sometimes lack vision.

That’s what Christopher Cerf and Victor Navasky have to say in their book, I Wish I Hadn’t Said That: The Experts Speak – and Get it Wrong!

In other words, just because you are super-smart and know what you’re talking about, it’s possible to blurt out your opinion on a topic and have that thrown back at you years later by people who want to point out how funny you sounded at the time.

Let’s take a look at some examples:

  • Lee deForest, the inventor of the vacuum tube, said that “To place a man in a multi-stage rocket and project him into the controlling gravitational field of the moon where the passengers can make scientific observations, perhaps land alive, and then return to earth–all that constitutes a wild dream worthy of Jules Verne. I am bold enough to say that such a man-made voyage will never occur regardless of all future advances.”
  • Kenneth Olsen, founder of Digital Computer Corp: “There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home”
  • Advice given to Henry Ford’s lawyer: “The horse is here to stay, but the automobile is only a novelty – a fad.”
